Steps to ensure a successful day of lobbying:
1. Attending the Lobbying Events:
Come to one of the lobbying trainings and on Wednesday evening (7/25) from 6:30-8:00pm or Thursday morning (7/27) from 9-10:30am. It’s important to attend this event so that you know how to lobby, what our asks to the members are, what to expect from lobby meetings and how to navigate the Hill. In order to prepare you for Thursday, we will provide packets with information on lobbying, our asks, maps of DC, and contact information. There will also be Marshall Training where we will go over conflict resolution and the plan for the march and fracking water drop-off.
Come to the US Capitol Building on Thursday morning (7/26) and lobby against the current fracking conditions. Remind those in Washington about the importance of closing the loopholes in the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts.
2. Setting up a Meeting with Your Congressman
All Congressional offices in Washington require a written appointment request. If you are not sure who your representative is, then you can type your zip code into the “find your representative” box in the top right corner of the US House of Representatives webpage (www.house.gov/representatives). An appointment request can be emailed to the congressman’s scheduler. In order to find the scheduler’s contact information, go to the following webpage:

The appointment request should be short and simple. Here is a potential template:

I am writing to request an appointment with you on July 26. I am a member of the [your group, if any] in [your city], and would like to discuss the issue of hydraulic fracturing. I am available to meet with you between 10:00am to 5:00pm.
